Singapore Launches First AI Safety Framework for Factories

Singapore is making it easier and safer for factories to embrace artificial intelligence without the usual risks.

Singapore Polytechnic just launched a groundbreaking program to help companies adopt industrial AI responsibly. The school partnered with AutomationSG to create the Trusted Industrial AI-Ready Framework, Singapore's first roadmap for businesses wanting to use AI in manufacturing, automation, and robotics safely.

The framework gives companies a practical way to check AI risks, set up proper oversight, and build trusted systems step by step. Instead of diving in blindly, businesses can start with one project, learn what works, and gradually expand their AI use with confidence.

"As AI becomes embedded in industrial environments, companies need both the right technology and the workforce capabilities to use it responsibly," said Soh Wai Wah, Singapore Polytechnic's principal and CEO. The school will launch an Industrial AI and Governance Literacy program this October to train workers in these new skills.

Two small businesses already tested the framework and found it helped them spot AI risks early, strengthen their practices, and build customer trust. The approach worked so well that a steering committee will now guide its expansion to more companies across Singapore.

The Ripple Effect

Singapore Polytechnic isn't stopping there. The school announced nine new partnerships with major companies including GlobalFoundries, Dassault Systèmes, and Advantech to strengthen training across manufacturing, semiconductors, and aviation.

These collaborations will touch thousands of lives. GlobalFoundries alone expects to train more than 2,000 employees through the partnership, helping workers stay relevant as technology evolves.

Students and adult learners will gain access to industry internships and hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies. Singapore Polytechnic will become the country's first higher education institution recognized as a SOLIDWORKS Authorized Training Centre, positioning graduates for success in AI-driven careers.

The announcement came during the Automation SolutionGO! conference, which brought together delegates from eight countries, over 50 experts, and students from more than 10 schools. The two-day event featured special sessions on regional growth opportunities, including the new Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.

By making AI training accessible and practical, Singapore is ensuring both businesses and workers can thrive together in an automated future.
