SiriusXM Launches $25K Prize for Francophone Artists

Emerging Francophone artists across Canada now have a clear path from their living rooms to the international stage, thanks to a new nationwide competition that's putting real money and opportunity behind French-language music.

SiriusXM Canada launched Nouvelles Ondes on April 14, inviting French-speaking solo artists and groups to compete for a $25,000 grand prize plus a performance slot at MaMA Music & Convention in Paris. Applications close April 28.

The competition offers more than just money. Three finalists selected by music industry professionals will record an original song and video in a professional studio, then perform at Festival d'été de Québec in July before heading to Festival de musique émergente en Abitibi-Témiscamingue in September for the grand finale.

Between July 9 and 23, Canadians get to vote daily for their favorite finalist after watching their studio recordings online. The winner heads to Paris to represent Canada's Francophone music scene on the international stage.

The two runners-up don't go home empty-handed either. Each receives $10,000, mentorship opportunities, and exposure across SiriusXM's platforms that reach over 35 million North American subscribers.

"Francophone artists are a vital part of Canada's cultural identity and creative future," said Michelle Mearns, SVP of Programming and Operations at SiriusXM Canada. The company already operates five dedicated Francophone channels and has supported Canadian artists through various initiatives for years.

The Ripple Effect

This competition does something important beyond launching individual careers. It creates a pipeline connecting talent in every Canadian province to Quebec's influential music festivals and ultimately to European audiences who might never otherwise hear these voices.

By putting professional recording, festival stages, and industry mentorship into one package, Nouvelles Ondes removes multiple barriers that typically keep emerging artists stuck at the local level. The public voting component also builds audience connection before winners even reach the biggest stages.

With applications open to Francophone artists nationwide, musicians from communities far beyond Quebec's major cities now have access to opportunities that can genuinely change career trajectories.
