Solar Company Hits Record $435M Despite Policy Setbacks

Despite federal rollbacks to clean energy incentives, one solar company just had its best year ever and gave back hundreds of thousands of dollars to communities along the way.

Pivot Energy, a national renewable energy provider, secured $435 million in financing and permitted 235 megawatts of solar projects in 2025. The Denver-based company achieved these milestones even as the federal government scaled back clean energy tax credits through new legislation.

The company didn't just build solar panels. It donated nearly $700,000 to dozens of local organizations supporting workforce development, affordable energy access, and education in Colorado, Illinois, Hawaii, and Maryland.

Pivot also expanded partnerships with major universities including Colorado State, Denver University, and the University of Colorado Boulder. The company completed three community solar projects connected to global brands Coach and Kate Spade, bringing clean energy to the grid while creating local economic opportunities.

The company's approach to land use stands out too. On 95% of its qualified ground-mounted solar sites, Pivot integrated farming elements like livestock grazing, pollinator habitats, or crop production. Nearly all of those sites now support active livestock grazing, creating a 300% growth in dual-use solar farms since 2023.

"Despite federal policy headwinds, last year's achievements demonstrate our unwavering resilience in the face of shifting regulations," said Tom Hunt, CEO at Pivot Energy. The company now has 4.3 gigawatts of solar projects either completed or under development, with roughly 1,000 projects finished and 900 more in progress.

The Ripple Effect

Pivot's success shows how renewable energy companies can create value that extends far beyond electricity generation. By partnering with farmers, universities, and local organizations, the company is building an ecosystem where clean energy supports job creation, education, and agricultural communities simultaneously.

Industry groups took notice of this approach. Pivot received the Colorado Cleantech Industries Association's High Impact Cleantech Company Award and a Green Power Leadership Award for community impact in 2025.

As the company moves into 2026, it's betting that solar remains the most affordable and scalable energy technology available, proving that doing good and doing well can go hand in hand.
