South African Soccer Team Celebrates Second Continental Win

Thousands of fans lined the streets of Pretoria this week as Mamelodi Sundowns paraded their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League trophy through the South African capital. The celebration marked a historic achievement for the team, which became the only South African club to win Africa's premier soccer championship twice.

The open-bus parade started in Mamelodi, the team's traditional home, before winding through Pretoria townships and the city center. Supporters caught glimpses of their heroes, including final match star Teboho Mokoena, captain Themba Zwane, Khuliso Mudau, and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

The victory came exactly 10 years after Sundowns' first continental title in 2016. The team secured their second championship with a 2-1 aggregate win over Morocco's AS FAR in Rabat.

Club chairman Thlopie Motsepe made a bold promise to the crowd gathered in Pretoria. "We cannot wait 10 years or five years for the second title," he told supporters, vowing that the team now knows the path to championship success and will return to the final soon.

Captain Zwane, one of only two players who won both titles, reflected on keeping his word to fans. "I am glad that I could keep the promise to the young ones that we will bring home," said Zwane, who lifted the trophy before thousands of cheering supporters.
