Spain just made driving an electric car a whole lot easier, and the economic boost could be massive.
The country now has 50,000 public EV charging points after adding roughly 10% more chargers in 2025 alone. Even more impressive, the number of high-power chargers doubled, and ultra-fast chargers (over 250 kW) jumped by 85%.
"The necessary resources have been put in place to develop a high-power charging network that can meet the needs of medium and long-distance travel," said Arturo Pérez de Lucia, managing director of AEDIVE, Spain's electric vehicle association. The next focus is bringing more charging options to cities and suburbs where people park while shopping, working, or grabbing dinner.
Four regions lead the charge: Catalonia, Madrid, Andalusia, and Valencia together host almost 60% of Spain's public chargers. That concentration helps create reliable charging corridors where drivers can find a charger every 30 to 40 miles, eliminating range anxiety for most trips.

The infrastructure boom is already supporting Spain's growing appetite for EVs. Bestsellers like the Tesla Model 3, Dacia Spring Electric, and MG4 Electric are becoming common sights on Spanish roads, with options now available at nearly every price point.
The Ripple Effect
This isn't just about cleaner air and quieter streets. Spain's mobility industry experts predict the charging network expansion will contribute an additional €11 billion to the country's GDP over the next five years.
The calculation factors in €60 billion forecasted for electrifying Spain's transportation market under the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan. Analysts project the mobility industry could drive a 1.94% annual GDP increase through 2030, creating jobs in manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and software development.
Spain's progress fits into a bigger European picture. The continent now has over one million public chargers, creating a vast network that makes cross-border electric travel increasingly practical.
For Spanish drivers who've hesitated to go electric, the math is getting simpler: more chargers mean less worry, and less worry means more people making the switch to cleaner transportation that's better for their wallets and their country's economy.
