St. Jude Teens Get Red Carpet Prom Night

Sixty teen patients at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital traded hospital gowns for prom dresses and tuxedos on May 1, stepping into a night where cancer took a backseat to dancing and laughter.

The annual St. Jude Teen Formal transformed the Domino's Event Center in Memphis into a "Cloud 9" wonderland, complete with cotton-trimmed decorations and metallic streamers. Volunteers styled hair and makeup, while donated wardrobes ensured every teen felt camera-ready.

"It gives us all a hope to just be normal and to just have an amazing time," said Presli, one of the attendees. Her mom watched with tears in her eyes as her daughter emerged from a limousimo with newfound confidence.

Country singer Megan Moroney, whose new album "Cloud 9" inspired the theme, sent a surprise video message to attendees. She honored their bravery and encouraged them to live it up on their special night.

The red carpet entrance set the tone for an unforgettable evening. Cheering volunteers lined the walkway as teens posed for photos and soaked in their moment to shine.

For Dalton, another patient at the event, the experience delivered an important message. "No matter what you're going through there's always a way for you to push through," he said.

Inside the venue, teens enjoyed a sit-down dinner before hitting the dance floor under cloud-covered ceilings. A DJ spun hits as the group danced the night away, their medical journeys temporarily forgotten.

Each attendee also visited a gifting suite where they personalized bird keychains. A mechanical dove lifted their keychain to the "sky" before returning with a swag bag full of goodies.

For the families watching their children dance and laugh, the Teen Formal represents something bigger than one night of fun. It's proof that joy can coexist with hardship, and that childhood doesn't have to be sacrificed to illness.

"To me, it represents hope," Dalton's mom shared. "It's something that we can look forward to and know that each year they can forget about all their worries."

Event coordinator Kenny spent months planning every detail to create lasting memories. Her behind-the-scenes TikTok videos show the care that went into making each teen feel celebrated and special.

These teens walked into prom with the same excitement as any high schooler, reminding us all that normal moments matter most when life feels anything but normal.
