Stevens Women's Basketball: 3.575 GPA and 20 Wins

The Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks just showed everyone that student athletes really can excel at both parts of that title.

The women's basketball team earned recognition from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for finishing with a stunning 3.575 team GPA this season. Out of 119 qualifying schools nationwide, Stevens ranked in the top 85 for academic achievement.

But here's where it gets even better. While maintaining those stellar grades, the Ducks also won 20 games and lost just seven. They made it all the way to their conference championship game for the third time in four years.

This wasn't a fluke season. Stevens has now appeared on the WBCA Academic Top 25 honor roll four times since 2020. They finished second nationally in 2021 and 11th in 2022, proving consistent excellence year after year.

The academic honor requires teams to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA across every player on the roster for the entire season. That means every single Duck, from starters to bench players, had to show up in study halls and classrooms with the same dedication they brought to practice.

The Ripple Effect

When young girls see college athletes thriving academically while competing at high levels, it changes what they believe is possible. The stereotype that you must choose between sports and studies crumbles when an entire team maintains above a 3.5 GPA while winning 74% of their games.

Stevens competes in Division III, where athletes receive no athletic scholarships and choose to play purely for the love of the game. These players balance rigorous engineering and science coursework at a top technical university with daily practices, weight training, film sessions, and travel for away games.

Their success sends a powerful message to high school athletes everywhere: you don't have to sacrifice your education for your sport or your sport for your education. The 31-year history of this WBCA program shows that academic and athletic excellence complement each other beautifully when students commit to both.

The Ducks' season may be over, but their legacy of proving what's possible when talent meets dedication lives on.
