Sweden is moving forward with a clean energy project that will soon light up homes across central Sweden.

Korkia Renewables just received environmental approval for a massive solar farm and battery storage facility in Dalarna, a region in the heart of Sweden. The Smedjebacken project combines a 150 megawatt solar plant with a powerful battery system that can store 600 megawatt hours of energy.

Once up and running, the facility will produce about 150 gigawatt hours of electricity every year. That's enough clean power to serve roughly 30,000 Swedish households while keeping carbon emissions out of the atmosphere.

The project sits in the Vilmoren forest area and represents a significant milestone for renewable energy in Sweden. Getting environmental clearance means the developers can now move toward breaking ground, with a secured connection to the country's power grid already in place.

"Receiving this environmental permit for our flagship project is a significant milestone for our Swedish operations," said Matti Manner, who leads Korkia's Swedish team. The approval gives the company a clear path to start construction.
