Switzerland and Hungary Launch Innovation Partnership

Switzerland, ranked the world's most innovative country for 15 years straight, is joining forces with Hungary's rising tech sector to create something powerful: a bridge between groundbreaking research and real-world solutions.

On June 9, Budapest will host the first-ever Swiss-Hungarian Innovation Forum, bringing together researchers, startups, companies, and investors from both nations. The event marks a fresh chapter in a relationship that dates back 80 years.

The Embassy of Switzerland, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and the Swiss-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce are organizing the gathering. Their goal is simple but ambitious: turn research results into marketable products, ideas into businesses, and cooperation into economic growth.

Switzerland's success offers a roadmap. The country doesn't just excel because of brilliant individuals but because universities, research centers, companies, startups, and investors work together seamlessly. That ecosystem approach could provide valuable lessons for Hungary's growing tech sector.

The partnership builds on an already strong foundation. More than 900 Swiss companies operate in Hungary today, providing 33,000 jobs and making Switzerland the sixth-largest foreign investor in the country.

"Switzerland's experience as a global innovation leader and Hungary's growing technological and engineering capabilities create a strong foundation for future cooperation," said Ambassador Alexander Renggli. "By connecting researchers, startups, companies, and investors, we can help turn knowledge into innovation."

The forum will feature keynote addresses from distinguished speakers and panel discussions with experts from ETH Zurich, Nestlé, and major Hungarian research organizations. A second session titled "From Lab to Market" will tackle the real challenges of bringing innovations from concept to consumer.

Industry leaders from ABB, the National Innovation Agency, and BME Innolab will share their experiences. Startup pitch sessions and a poster exhibition will showcase proof-of-concept projects making the journey from research to commercialisation.

This partnership could reshape how both countries approach innovation. When a nation that's topped global innovation rankings for 15 consecutive years shares its playbook with a country building momentum in technology and engineering, everyone benefits.
