Taiwan Wins Epic 10-Inning Thriller at World Baseball Classic

When Taiwan's Chieh-Hsien Chen crossed home plate in the 10th inning on a sacrifice bunt, he capped off one of the most exciting games in World Baseball Classic history.

Taiwan defeated South Korea 5-4 on Sunday in Tokyo after three home runs and a heart-stopping extra frame. The win improved Taiwan's record to 2-2 in Pool C play.

The game had everything fans love about baseball. Yu Chang opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, followed by Tsung-Che Cheng's solo shot in the second.

Stuart Fairchild became the hero in the eighth inning with a two-run homer that put Taiwan ahead 4-3. For Fairchild, a Cleveland Guardians outfielder playing for Taiwan through his mother's heritage, it was his second tournament home run after hitting a grand slam against the Czech Republic earlier.

"That was one of the most fun games I've ever played in my life," Fairchild said after the win.

But South Korea wasn't done. Do Yeong Kim doubled in the bottom of the eighth to tie it 4-4, sending the game to extra innings and setting up the dramatic finale.

South Korea nearly answered in the bottom of the 10th when Ju Won Kim tried to score the tying run. He was thrown out at home on a close play that replay confirmed was the right call.
