Team USA Names Speedskater Jackson, Soldier Del Duca Flag Bearers

Two champions who embody perseverance and pride will carry the American flag into Friday's opening ceremony at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Speedskater Erin Jackson made history at the 2022 Beijing Games as the first Black woman to win an individual gold medal at any Winter Olympics. Now she returns to competition with an even bigger honor: leading Team USA as co-flag bearer alongside bobsledder Frank Del Duca.

"Being chosen to represent the United States on the world stage is a tremendous honor," Jackson said. "It represents my family, my teammates, my hometown, and everyone across the country who believes in the power of sport."

Jackson will compete in both the 500-meter and 1,000-meter speedskating events in Milan. Her selection recognizes not just her golden achievement four years ago, but her role as a trailblazer who opened doors for future athletes.

"My grandparents are no longer around, but they always rooted for Italy and the U.S.," Del Duca said. "They said the perfect day would be the Italians and the Americans tying for gold."
