Teamsters Local 25 Awards $74K to 37 Students
A Massachusetts union just awarded its largest scholarship haul ever, sending $74,000 to 37 children and grandchildren of members. Lynn resident Peter Prentiss is among the recipients heading to college this fall with Teamster support.
Thirty-seven students are heading to college with a little more financial breathing room, thanks to one of Massachusetts' largest unions putting its money where its heart is.
Teamsters Local 25 announced Monday it awarded $74,000 in scholarships to children and grandchildren of union members and retirees. The total marks the largest scholarship announcement in the union's history.
Among the winners is Lynn resident Peter Prentiss, whose father Thomas is a Teamster Local 25 member. Peter will attend Loyola University Maryland this fall with scholarship support that makes his college dreams a little more affordable.
"We have the strongest membership in the country and among the most generous when it comes to supporting the next generation," said Teamsters Local 25 President Tom Mari. The union has been funding these scholarships since 2006, awarding hundreds of thousands of dollars over nearly two decades.

The money comes from member donations and contributions from local Massachusetts companies. Supporters include law firms Feinberg, Dumont & Brennan and Keches Law Group, along with businesses like Hilb Group Inc and Regan Communications Group, plus several Teamster-organized groups and memorial funds.
The Ripple Effect
These scholarships do more than cover textbooks and tuition. They signal to working families that their union sees education as an investment worth making together. When members pool resources to lift up the next generation, they're building a culture that values both solidarity and individual opportunity.
For the 37 recipients, the financial support removes barriers that might have meant choosing a less expensive school, taking on extra loans, or working more hours instead of focusing on studies.
"Your future is bright, and your Teamster family will be with you every step of the way," Mari told the 2026 scholarship class, reminding them that their success belongs to a community that chose to invest in their potential.
