Teen Breaks World Record While Healing From Spinal Injury

When Osten "Oz" Utley was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in March 2024, a C1 spinal cord injury could have ended his soccer dreams. Instead, the Stillwater teen turned his hospital room at Bethany Children's Health Center into a soccer training ground.

During rehabilitation, Oz challenged every visitor to juggle a soccer ball. He kept a leaderboard in his room, transforming painful recovery days into friendly competitions that kept his spirit alive and his love of the game burning bright.

His determination sparked something bigger. On Saturday, Bethany Children's Health Center became the only hospital worldwide to host an official Guinness World Record attempt for simultaneous soccer ball juggling.

Patients, families, community members and local athletes gathered at the Oklahoma facility. At the same moment, participants in 42 other cities worldwide lifted their soccer balls and started juggling.

For exactly 10 seconds, 511 people across the globe kept their soccer balls in the air. The synchronized effort shattered the previous record of 459 participants, with Oklahoma's young soccer player serving as the heart of the movement.
