Teen Lifeguard Saves 10-Year-Old in Heroic California Rescue

When waves began crashing over a 10-year-old boy at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz County, a 16-year-old lifeguard didn't hesitate.

Scott Vander Dussen captured the rescue on video as the teenage lifeguard sprinted into hazardous surf conditions. The boy was struggling to stay above water as wave after wave pounded him.

The young lifeguard reached the child and began pulling him toward shore through the rough waters. Other beachgoers quickly joined the effort, helping both the lifeguard and the boy make it safely back to the beach.

Paramedics evaluated the 10-year-old at the scene before releasing him to his relieved parents. The boy walked away from what could have been a tragedy, thanks to one teenager's training and bravery.

The rescue video spread quickly online, eventually reaching President Donald Trump. After his son Eric shared the footage, the President posted on Truth Social that the lifeguard deserved national recognition.

"We're going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House with, perhaps the boy he saved, to give him a High Civilian Honor," Trump wrote. "Very brave, he deserves it!"
