Teen Makes F1 History With Third Straight Miami Win
Nineteen-year-old Kimi Antonelli just became the first driver ever to win his first three Formula 1 races from pole position. The Italian rookie is proving the doubters wrong and leading the championship standings for Mercedes.
A teenager is rewriting the Formula 1 record books and making it look easy.
Kimi Antonelli, just 19 years old, won the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday to become the first driver in F1 history to win his first three races from pole position. The Italian Mercedes driver now leads the championship standings with a 20-point advantage over his teammate George Russell.
"It is just the beginning, the road is still long, but we're working super hard," Antonelli said after the race. His boss, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, couldn't hide his excitement: "Kimi, that was very, very impressive."
The race started three hours early due to thunderstorm threats, with lightning strikes visible over Hard Rock Stadium that morning. Once the green flag dropped on damp pavement, chaos erupted immediately.
Antonelli went wide defending his lead on the opening lap, allowing Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to surge ahead. Moments later, reigning world champion Lando Norris briefly took the lead on lap 14.

But Antonelli stayed calm under pressure. He reclaimed the lead on lap five, lost it again, then beat Norris out of the pit lane to take control for good.
The rookie crossed the finish line 3.2 seconds ahead of Norris, who graciously tipped his hat to the youngster. "Kimi did a good job. Hats off to Merc and Kimi. They drove a good race," Norris said.
Why This Inspires
Antonelli and Russell have now won all four races this season for Mercedes, marking one of the most dominant starts in recent F1 history. The teenage sensation is proving that age is just a number when talent meets preparation.
His humble attitude despite the historic success shows maturity beyond his years. Rather than getting caught up in the hype, Antonelli plans to "enjoy this one and then get back to work."
The Mercedes team has given their young driver the perfect car, and he's delivering results that veteran drivers dream about. Together, they're reminding the racing world that fresh talent combined with championship-caliber support can create something truly special.
Next up is the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on May 24, where Antonelli will try to make it four in a row.
