Teen Raises $48K in 6 Years for Diabetes Cure

Max LeBlanc didn't let rain stop him from raising $10,200 for diabetes research this Canada Day, proving that determination can outshine any weather.

The soon-to-be ninth grader from Invermere, British Columbia, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was just two years old. Instead of letting the condition define him, he decided to do something about it.

For six years running, Max has organized a Canada Day fundraiser in downtown Invermere, selling tacos, sangria, beer, and lemonade with help from family and friends. This year's event brought in more than $5,100, which a generous matching donor doubled to over $10,200.

The weather tried to dampen spirits with steady rain, but loyal supporters still lined up down the sidewalk just like in previous years. Many of the same faces return annually, creating a heartwarming tradition that goes beyond just raising money.

"The day was incredible. It was really fun despite the weather," said Max's mom Jody. The community connection keeps growing stronger with each passing year.

Max's six-year journey has now brought in more than $48,000 for Type 1 diabetes research. That's not just money, it's hope multiplied across thousands of families dealing with the same diagnosis Max received as a toddler.

Local businesses Birchwood and ULLR sent staff to volunteer, showing how one teenager's dedication can inspire entire organizations to join the cause. Visitors and residents alike have made Max's fundraiser a must-stop part of their Canada Day celebrations.
