Telangana Targets $25B Investment in Life Sciences by 2030

Telangana is betting big on becoming a global powerhouse in medicine and biotechnology, and the numbers show they mean business.

The Indian state launched its Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy 2026-30 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, setting sights on attracting $25 billion in investments over the next five years. The goal is ambitious but grounded in recent success: Telangana has already secured $8.7 billion in life sciences investments over just the past two years.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy says the state is building "one of the world's most trusted and transformational biosciences ecosystems." The policy targets creating 500,000 quality jobs while positioning Telangana among the top five global life sciences clusters by 2030.

The strategy marks a major shift from basic manufacturing to cutting-edge innovation. Telangana is focusing on frontier technologies like cell and gene therapies, precision medicine, and AI-powered drug discovery. These aren't just buzzwords: the state is backing them with serious infrastructure including expanded facilities at Genome Valley, ten new Pharma Villages, and a dedicated Medical Devices Park.

Money is flowing into innovation too. A $100 million Life Sciences Innovation Fund will support early-stage startups working on breakthrough treatments and deep-tech ventures in biotherapeutics.

Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu highlighted a game-changing reform: research and development units will now receive the same benefits as manufacturing facilities. This levels the playing field and sends a clear message that discovery matters as much as production.

The policy also includes plans for the Telangana School of Life Sciences, a research university designed to create the skilled workforce needed to sustain this growth. The state understands that world-class innovation requires world-class talent.
