Temple Volunteers Wanted: All Ages, Faiths Welcome in SLC

Thousands of volunteers will soon transform Temple Square into a welcoming hub of celebration, and you don't need to be a church member to join in.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints opened applications this week for anyone 16 or older to help with the Salt Lake Temple Celebration running February through October 2027. After years of renovation, the historic temple will reopen with an event designed to welcome everyone, regardless of religion or background.

"We're looking for the most joyful people who just can't wait to help and serve," said Jen Allen, a church employee coordinating the celebration. The goal is simple: make every single visitor feel welcome.

Most volunteer roles require just one three to four hour shift weekly for eight weeks. Some positions involve greeting guests and answering questions, while others work behind the scenes or even remotely from home. Whether you prefer standing and chatting with visitors or helping from your couch, there's a spot for you.

The celebration goes beyond traditional volunteering. Groups of four to 100 people can apply to perform 30-minute shows, and the church welcomes everyone from professional musicians to amateur dancers. Artists can also share their talents through live demonstrations of chalk art, painting, sculpting or glassblowing.

The Ripple Effect

This celebration represents something bigger than a building reopening. By inviting people of all faiths and backgrounds to volunteer together, the event creates connections across diverse communities. Young people gain service experience, retirees share their wisdom, and neighbors who might never have met work side by side to create joyful experiences for visitors from around the world.

The volunteer positions close July 15, 2026, giving interested helpers plenty of time to plan. For those seeking paid positions, the church is hiring returned missionaries as part-time guides and recruiting performers aged 18 to 35 for a full-time troupe earning $900 weekly.

Allen called the celebration "unprecedented," noting that volunteers will be "the front line" of years of preparation. They'll represent the heart of the event: welcoming every person who walks through the doors.
