Tennessee Fans Turn Rival Stadium Into Home Turf

When Tennessee's team bus rolled into Atlanta for an away game at Georgia Tech, the streets looked like Knoxville had picked up and moved south.

Orange-clad Volunteers fans flooded Bobby Dodd Stadium on September 12, helping sell out the venue to watch their No. 18 ranked team take on the Yellow Jackets. The crowd was so overwhelmingly Tennessee orange that players and coaches had to remind themselves they were actually on the road.

"We leave our hotel and you see nothing but orange and white on our way here," said UT coach Josh Heupel. "From older fans who have been here for a lot of generations to some younger ones who don't know how to tie their shoes yet, you walk into the stadium 60 minutes before kickoff and a majority of the crowd is Tennessee orange."

For freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon, making his first college road start could have been nerve-wracking. Instead, the wall of orange made it feel like playing at home.

"It was a lot of orange," Brandon said. "It definitely made things easier. Wasn't too much noise."

The support clearly worked. Brandon accounted for 171 total yards and two passing touchdowns, completing five of six passes after halftime. The Vols outscored Georgia Tech 38-14 over the final three quarters, securing a commanding 45-24 victory.

The Ripple Effect

This wasn't just about one game. Tennessee fans showed what community passion looks like when thousands of people coordinate travel, tickets, and team spirit to support young athletes hundreds of miles from home. Families made the trip together, creating memories that span generations.

Even in his sixth season coaching at Tennessee, Heupel still finds himself amazed by the fanbase. "I've said it before, this is the best fanbase in college sports," he said. "So we don't take that for granted and we appreciate that."

The scene proves that showing up matters, whether you're a player on the field or a fan in the stands wearing your team's colors with pride.
