When Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter got suspended for accepting a $427 flight from an agent, he turned his penalty into purpose.

The NCAA suspended Carter for one game this season after he took the flight during a brief attempt to enter the NFL draft. He had already repaid the money and cut ties with the agent in January, but the suspension stuck.

Carter decided to make something meaningful from his punishment. Starting with his return game on September 12 against Georgia Tech, he's pledging $427 to cancer research for every tackle he makes this season.

His giving goes deeper than tackles. Carter will donate $500 for every sack, $1,000 for each interception or forced fumble, and $5,000 for every defensive touchdown he scores.

Carter's motivation comes from watching his girlfriend, Mariah Bryant, battle breast cancer. He cut his signature hair this summer to honor her fight and dedicated his entire senior season to her courage.

The donations will support Sisters Network Nashville, which provides cancer treatment assistance in the Nashville area. Some funds will also help cover Bryant's medical bills directly.

Carter wants to "raise awareness" and eventually "build a foundation" to help people facing similar struggles, he told Volquest. His name, image, and likeness deals are valued at $775,000, giving him the financial ability to make real impact.

If Carter matches his stats from last season, projections suggest his pledge could generate more than $42,000 for cancer research and treatment. Every tackle becomes a statement: setbacks can fuel comebacks, and penalties can become platforms for good.
