Tennessee Sets Goal: 750,000 Electric Cars by 2035

The state just released its 2026 electric vehicle roadmap, setting a bold goal to support 750,000 electric cars and trucks on Tennessee roads by 2035. That's more than ten times the 68,000 EVs currently registered in the state.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation worked with Drive Electric Tennessee to create the updated plan. It replaces an earlier, more modest target of 200,000 EVs by 2028, reflecting how quickly the electric vehicle market has grown.

The roadmap goes beyond passenger cars. It includes plans for electrifying delivery trucks, school buses, and other commercial vehicles, plus building the charging stations needed to support them all.
