Tesla Robotaxis Now Cover All of Austin Metro Area

Residents across Austin can now hail a driverless Tesla taxi from anywhere in the metro area, including suburbs like Pflugerville and Manor. The expanded service zone covers Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Tesla's massive Gigafactory Texas, and major highways throughout the region.

This marks Tesla's fifth expansion of its robotaxi territory since launching the service in July 2025. The company more than doubled its coverage area from the previous boundary set last October, pushing autonomous vehicle technology into more neighborhoods than ever before.

The expansion comes as Tesla works through real-world challenges with its fledgling service. The Austin fleet currently operates about 20 unsupervised vehicles, down from 27 cars tracked in mid-May, which could mean longer wait times for riders across the newly expanded area.

Tesla originally promised robotaxi coverage for half the US population by the end of 2025. That timeline has slipped, and we're now nearly halfway through 2026 with service still concentrated in Austin and a handful of other test markets.
