First mass-produced Tesla Semi electric truck on factory floor surrounded by workers at Nevada Gigafactory

Tesla Semi Begins Mass Production After 9-Year Wait

🤯 Mind Blown

Tesla's first electric semi truck has officially rolled off its new high-volume production line in Nevada, ending one of the longest waits in the company's history. The affordable, powerful truck could transform America's freight industry while slashing emissions.

After nearly a decade of waiting, Tesla's electric Semi is finally ready for the roads.

The company just shared a photo of its first mass-produced electric Semi truck rolling off the assembly line at Gigafactory Nevada. The image shows the sleek white truck surrounded by dozens of workers in a newly built facility designed to produce up to 50,000 trucks annually.

Tesla first unveiled the Semi concept back in 2017, promising delivery by 2019. That timeline stretched into years of delays as engineers refined the design, shed 1,000 pounds from the truck's weight, and built a dedicated factory from scratch.

The wait appears worth it. Tesla will offer two versions: a Standard Range model traveling 325 miles per charge for $260,000, and a Long Range hitting 500 miles for $290,000. Industry experts say these prices make the Semi the most affordable heavy-duty electric truck in America while outperforming much of the competition on specs.

Both models pack three electric motors delivering 800 kilowatts of power. They can haul up to 82,000 pounds, matching traditional diesel semi trucks in capability.

The charging story gets even better. Tesla designed the Semi for megawatt charging at 1.2 MW, meaning drivers can restore most of the 500-mile range in just 30 minutes. The company is already building out a network of 67 Megacharger stations across 15 states, with the first one now operational in Ontario, California.

Early demand signals look promising. PepsiCo already operates 36 pre-production Semis in California and reports positive results. Between January 2025 and February 2026, California's Clean Truck voucher program received 965 applications for the Tesla Semi out of 1,067 total submissions. Daimler, Paccar, and Volvo combined received fewer than 100.

The Ripple Effect

Every diesel semi truck Tesla replaces means cleaner air for communities along freight routes. With trucks accounting for a massive chunk of transportation emissions, electric alternatives operating at this scale could meaningfully shift America's carbon footprint.

The affordable pricing matters too. At $260,000 to $290,000, fleet operators can justify the switch without breaking budgets, especially when factoring in lower fuel and maintenance costs over the truck's lifetime.

Tesla's gradual production ramp means thousands of these trucks could be hauling goods across America within a few years, proving that zero-emission freight isn't just possible but practical and profitable.
