Texas Boy, 7, Saves Baby Brother From Drowning

When every second counted, 7-year-old Patrick didn't panic. He acted.

The Texas boy is being celebrated for extraordinary bravery after rescuing his 1-year-old brother, Liam, from a backyard swimming pool on June 21 in Burleson. Authorities say his quick thinking made the difference between tragedy and survival.

Patrick discovered Liam unresponsive in the family's pool that Saturday afternoon. Despite being just seven years old, he pulled his baby brother from the water, rushed inside to alert his mother, and then sprinted to a neighbor's house for additional help.

Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office arrived alongside emergency crews, who began lifesaving treatment before transporting Liam to Cook Children's Medical Center. The little boy is expected to make a full recovery.

The sheriff's office praised Patrick's calm response under pressure. "In moments of crisis, even adults can freeze," they wrote in a statement. "Patrick did the opposite."

Officials credited his courage and determination with playing a critical role in saving Liam's life. Deputies have now nominated Patrick to receive a Sheriff's Commendation Award, which will be reviewed by the agency's Awards Committee.
