Texas Couple Gets Engaged at O'Hare Chili's Where They Met

Sometimes the most unexpected places become the most meaningful spots in our lives, and for Robert Schnetz and Sarah Doss, that place was an airport restaurant.

In 2023, both travelers found themselves killing time at the Chili's bar inside Chicago's O'Hare International Airport during separate layovers. Doss struck up a conversation with Schnetz, and though they had to catch different flights, she left an impression.

"I gave her my LinkedIn, and then I land, and I have a message with her phone number," Schnetz recalled. He messaged back, and what started as a chance airport encounter became a nearly three-year relationship.

When Schnetz decided to propose, he knew exactly where it had to happen. He convinced Doss to join him on what he claimed was a work trip to Chicago, secretly coordinating with friends who flew in from LA that morning to set everything up.

As they walked through the airport, Schnetz spotted their photo slideshow playing on the screens and panicked that she'd figure it out. But Doss remained blissfully unaware until she heard live music and saw a crowd gathering.

"There must be some event happening," she thought. The event was her own proposal.

Dozens of travelers stopped to watch and record as Schnetz got down on one knee at the very bar where they'd first talked. "It wasn't until he started speaking really sincerely that I realized everyone is looking at us," Doss said. "I knew in that moment he is proposing. This is where we met. It couldn't be more special."

The videos quickly spread across Instagram and TikTok, racking up views from people who love a good love story. But for Schnetz and Doss, sharing their joy with strangers made the moment even better.

"I look over, 50 people recording," Schnetz laughed. "I look to the left, everyone in Chili's has their phones out."

The couple says sharing their happiness with the world only made their special moment sweeter. "We laugh all the time. We enjoy our life together," Doss explained. "So to be able to share that joy with other people is a really special thing."

Their story proves that love can bloom anywhere, even in the most unlikely places.
