Texas Cowboy Beats Skin Cancer Thanks to Generous Doctor

A West Texas cowboy is recovering from skin cancer after his doctor went above and beyond to make life-saving treatment affordable.

Sammy Wilson spent decades working cattle under the harsh Texas sun near Coleman. Like many ranchers, he relied on long sleeves and a cowboy hat for protection, but it wasn't enough.

When a spot near his eye and ear kept growing, his wife convinced him to get it checked. Wilson delayed too long, and the cancer spread significantly.

Dr. Sina Aboutalebi at Abilene Dermatology found multiple skin cancers on Wilson's face. Three locations near his eye, ear, and nose needed immediate attention.

The cost of treatment worried Wilson so much that he planned to only have one procedure done. But Dr. Aboutalebi couldn't turn him away.

Instead of sending Wilson to a hospital where facility and anesthesia fees would pile up, Dr. Aboutalebi performed all the surgeries in his office. He removed the cancers and completed the facial reconstruction himself, dramatically reducing the cost.

"He's gone above and beyond for me," Wilson said of his doctor's compassionate care.
