Texas District Boosts Scores Third Year Running

A Texas school district is proving that steady progress happens when everyone works together.

Comal Independent School District in New Braunfels earned an overall score of 88 (a B grade) in the Texas Education Agency's 2026 accountability ratings. It's the third consecutive year the district has improved its performance, continuing an upward trend that reflects sustained effort across the entire system.

The district scored B grades across all three major categories: student achievement, school progress, and closing achievement gaps. That last measure tracks how well schools serve students from different backgrounds and with different needs.

Superintendent Dr. John Chapman credited the results to more than just test scores. "It represents years of focused work by our teachers, staff, and campus leaders, tremendous support from our families and community, and, most importantly, the dedication of our students," he said in a district press release.

Comal ISD serves a large and growing student population in the New Braunfels area between San Antonio and Austin. Maintaining improvement across a district that size requires coordination at every level, from classroom teachers to district administrators.

The Ripple Effect

The steady climb in accountability scores shows what's possible when school communities commit to long-term improvement rather than quick fixes. Three consecutive years of growth suggests the district has built systems that work, not just had a lucky year.
