Texas Fire Chief Caleb Miller Honored After Years of Service

When Rosebud, Texas needed help, Fire Chief Caleb Miller was always the first smiling face to show up. After more than a decade of service to his community, the beloved leader and mentor is being remembered for a life dedicated to others.

Miller served the Rosebud Volunteer Fire Department with unwavering dedication, rising through the ranks alongside his close friend Kenny Ray Murray. The two started as rookie firefighters together and eventually led the department side by side.

"Caleb was a hero, and I'm proud to say he was my friend," Murray said. "We got to do a lot of the good stuff together, we had some wins."

Those who knew Miller say his impact went far beyond firefighting. He was known throughout the tight-knit community as someone who would drop everything to help a neighbor in need.

"If the city needed help or anyone needed help, Caleb was the first smiling face you would see," Murray recalled. "He was our 911."

The fire department described Miller as a once-in-a-lifetime leader who served with heart both on and off duty. Colleagues say he mentored younger firefighters and showed everyone what true service looks like through his actions.

"Caleb would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation," the Rosebud VFD shared in a statement honoring their chief.

Miller's life demonstrates how one person's commitment to service can transform an entire community. In Rosebud, his legacy isn't measured in years served but in lives touched and hearts changed.

Murray says you don't have to walk far in town to find people whose lives Miller improved. Whether responding to emergencies, helping with city projects, or simply being there when someone needed support, he embodied what it means to be a true public servant.

Beyond his professional role, Miller was a devoted husband and father. His family and the values he lived by remain at the heart of everything he built in Rosebud.

The community is now rallying around Miller's wife and children, with a fundraiser being organized to support the family. Visitation will be held May 7, with a funeral service on May 8 at Westphalia Parish Hall in Lott, Texas.

Murray says Miller's example will continue inspiring others for decades to come. "I want to be like Caleb," he said simply. "He was a very good person."

While his boots now sit empty at the firehouse, Miller's legacy of compassion, leadership, and selfless service will live on in the community he loved so deeply.
