Texas Man Wades Through Chest-Deep Floodwaters to Save Stranger

David Flores spotted Nathan clinging to a tree in the middle of a swollen creek in Sabinal, Texas, and knew he had to act fast. Without waiting for emergency crews, Flores grabbed his phone and waded into the rushing floodwaters of Elm Creek.

The dramatic rescue happened Tuesday morning after more than 12 inches of rain pounded Uvalde County. That's more than half a year's worth of rain in just one storm, turning normally calm creeks into dangerous torrents.

"Come on. Keep going. Go toward the tree," Flores called out as he recorded himself moving carefully through the current. The water quickly rose to his chest as he made his way toward Nathan, who was struggling to hold on.

Flores kept talking to Nathan the entire time, offering encouragement and keeping him focused. "I'm coming. I'm coming toward you, Nathan," he said, his voice steady despite the dangerous conditions swirling around him.

The video shows Nathan gripping the tree trunk, trying to catch his breath as the powerful current rushed past. Flores moved slowly and deliberately, fighting the force of the water with each step.

"All right, Nathan, hang on. You got to take a break," Flores said when he finally reached him. After catching their breath, both men made their way back to dry ground safely.
