Texas Nonprofit Needs Summer Volunteers for Cancer Kids

A Texas nonprofit that supports children fighting cancer is opening its doors to student volunteers who want to make summer count.

Smiles from Heaven recently visited United High School in Laredo to recruit volunteers for its programs serving children with pediatric cancer and blood disorders. The organization partners with Fight Like a Kid to provide a safe space and support for families navigating some of life's toughest challenges.

Volunteer Coordinator Sammy Hernandez connected with students eager to give back while earning volunteer hours. The response showed that young people are ready to step up when given the chance.

"We're grateful for the opportunity to share our mission and inspire the next generation of volunteers," the organization shared. Students from any school can join.

The summer calendar is packed with opportunities to help. A Zumbini Sensory Class happens July 10, followed by Movie Day on July 14 and a Kids Summer Camp running July 20 through 23.
