Texas Rangers Honor Mexican Heritage with New Red Jerseys

The Texas Rangers just gave fans something beautiful to cheer about beyond the scoreboard.

The team revealed stunning new red uniforms Thursday that honor the Mexican heritage woven throughout North Texas communities. The deep red jerseys spell out "TEJAS" across the front, embracing both the Spanish and indigenous names for the region that became Texas.

"Whether you say it with an X or a J, this uniform recognizes that it's the same place and how proud we are to call Tejas home," the team said in their announcement. The jerseys will debut April 24 and become the team's regular Friday home uniform.

The Rangers worked for years developing these designs with Nike. Every detail tells a story of cultural connection and pride.

The deep red color mirrors pigments from ancient Mexican tradition. Ornate piping along the pants and jersey cuffs honors Mexican horsemen and mariachi musicians, created from interlocking block T stencils.

A Texas-shaped design on the sleeves celebrates papel picado, the intricate punched paper art popular in Mexican celebrations. An engraved red belt pays tribute to Mexican vaqueros who helped shape cowboy identity across the border region.

The jerseys also nod to Rangers history. The block T on the cap matches the 1970s font, while the "TEJAS" lettering mirrors 1980s away jerseys. The return of red honors the 1990s redesign that fans missed when the team simplified to four primary uniform colors.

The Ripple Effect

This uniform launch represents just one part of the Rangers' growing commitment to their Hispanic fanbase. Over the past four years, the team has added mariachi bands to game entertainment and created the "Viva Tejas" postgame concert series.

Travis Dillon, the club's senior vice president for marketing, sees the jerseys as meaningful progress. "We feel like we've taken steps over the last few years to better connect with the Hispanic community," he said. "We feel like this is a great next step."

Fans rushed to Globe Life Field's team store Thursday morning to grab the new gear. The jerseys replace the 2023 City Connect uniforms featuring the mythical "Peagle" creature, which never quite captured hearts the same way.
