Thailand Evacuates 300 Nationals from Iran Conflict Zone

Thailand is racing to evacuate 300 of its citizens from Iran as conflict spreads across the Middle East, with officials already coordinating safe passage routes to bring everyone home.

Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow announced Tuesday that Thai nationals, including 200 students, will be transported overland about 1,000 kilometers to neighboring Turkey. From there, they'll catch commercial flights back to Bangkok.

The government isn't stopping with one plan. Officials are also considering chartering an aircraft from Egypt and have identified alternative evacuation points in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, where airspace remains open and flights continue operating normally.

Thai embassies across the affected region have been working closely with host governments to establish safe zones for evacuees. The coordination ensures that citizens know exactly where to go and how to get home safely.

Minister Sihasak emphasized that anyone wanting to return should contact authorities immediately so personalized travel routes can be arranged. The government has made Iranian evacuations its top priority, with contingency plans ready for other conflict areas.

The Bright Side

While the situation involves a vast geographical area spanning Iran, Israel, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, and Cyprus, the Thai government's preparation is paying off. Unlike rushing to respond after crisis hits, officials had evacuation protocols already mapped out.

This preparation matters especially now. Current estimates suggest hundreds of thousands of Thai nationals work across the region, a dramatic increase from the 40,000 affected during the 2024 Israel conflict.

In Israel alone, roughly 65,000 Thai citizens have chosen to stay, expressing confidence in local security measures. The government is respecting their choice while keeping evacuation options ready if situations change.

Even the 10 Thai embassy staff in Tehran's high-risk areas remain safe and operational, focused on helping citizens first. The minister confirmed that decisions about evacuating diplomatic personnel will come only after all Thai nationals who want to leave have been safely extracted.

Throughout the crisis, one message remains clear: there's no need for panic. The government has this covered, routes are ready, and everyone who wants to come home will get there safely.
