Thailand Launches AI Initiative to Become Regional Tech Hub

Thailand just took a major step toward becoming Southeast Asia's AI powerhouse. The country launched the Thailand AI Ecosystem Initiative at a summit in Bangkok, bringing together tech giant Huawei, government agencies, telecom carriers, universities, and AI developers to build a thriving local tech scene.

The initiative kicked off at the Huawei Thailand Digital & AI Summit 2025 on July 23 and 24. Thailand's Ministry of Digital Economy and Society co-hosted the event, signaling strong government backing for the ambitious plan.

Minister Chaichanok Chidchib outlined Thailand's three-pillar strategy focused on infrastructure, trust, and people. The country wants to serve as a real-world testing ground where companies, researchers, and regulators can work side by side to turn AI ideas into practical solutions.

The timing couldn't be better. Austin Zheng from Huawei Thailand identified five major roadblocks holding back AI adoption in the region: limited computing resources, data challenges, model development struggles, security concerns, and talent shortages.

To tackle these hurdles, Huawei introduced its ACT framework. The approach helps businesses identify high-value AI scenarios, customize models with industry-specific data, and train workers to accelerate intelligent application development. The company plans to grow local AI talent through the ASEAN Academy.

The global impact is already visible. Huawei's AI solutions currently serve more than 2,600 companies across over 30 industries worldwide, covering 500 different business scenarios in sectors like finance, transportation, manufacturing, and healthcare.
