Thailand Launches Platform to Help SMEs Enter Wellness Market
Thailand's science agency is giving small businesses the tools to create high-value health products and tap into a $40 billion market opportunity. More than 1,000 entrepreneurs have already used the platform to reach two million consumers.
Small businesses in Thailand just got a powerful new toolkit to break into the booming wellness and pet care industries, worth a combined $43 billion in the country alone.
Thailand's National Science and Technology Development Agency is expanding its FoodSERP platform with three specialized services designed to help small and medium businesses turn research into products people want to buy. The additions target precision nutrition, flavor development, and high-quality pet products.
The timing couldn't be better. Consumer interest in preventive healthcare, healthy aging, and treating pets like family members is creating massive demand for innovative products that simply didn't exist a few years ago.
PxSERP focuses on precision nutrition and helps businesses understand how individual bodies respond to different foods, including the role of gut bacteria and probiotics. Thailand currently imports most of its probiotics from Taiwan, Australia, and the United States, but locally developed strains could change that while boosting domestic food value.
FlavorSERP uses biotechnology to create distinctive tastes and aromas that help products stand out. PetSERP supports the development of everything from premium pet food to eco-friendly cat litter made from agricultural waste like sugarcane bagasse.

Professor Piyamitr Sritara from Mahidol University highlighted how the platform bridges the gap between laboratory research and real products. Deep science meets practical business needs, helping entrepreneurs compete globally while meeting rising consumer expectations.
The one-stop service model is already proving its worth. FoodSERP has supported over 1,000 Thai entrepreneurs since launch, with their innovative products reaching more than two million consumers nationwide.
The Ripple Effect
The economic impact extends far beyond individual businesses. The agency estimates FoodSERP has generated roughly $240 million in economic value by transforming laboratory research into commercially viable products.
The initiative also supports Thailand's push toward a circular economy. Agricultural by-products that might otherwise go to waste can become valuable raw materials for pet products and other goods.
As Thailand works to boost its GDP growth, increasing the value of food exports represents a significant opportunity. The country already serves as an important global food source, and science-backed innovation could amplify that role while creating better products for consumers at home and abroad.
Small businesses now have access to the kind of deep research capabilities that were once only available to large corporations, leveling the playing field and unlocking new possibilities for growth in markets focused on wellness for both people and pets.
