TP-Link Malaysia Partners with UniSHAMS for Tech Training
A major tech company is teaming up with a Malaysian university to help students learn real-world networking skills and earn professional certifications. The three-year partnership will give students hands-on training, internships, and access to enterprise technology used in the industry.
Students at a Malaysian university just got a major boost in their tech career prospects, thanks to a new partnership designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world skills.
TP-Link Malaysia signed a three-year agreement with Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (UniSHAMS) to help students gain practical experience in enterprise networking. The partnership will offer workshops, specialized courses, internships, and opportunities to earn industry-recognized certifications.
The collaboration addresses a common challenge in tech education: students graduate with theoretical knowledge but lack hands-on experience with the tools companies actually use. Through this program, UniSHAMS students will work with Omada enterprise networking technology and can pursue the Omada Certified Network Associate (OCNA) certification, giving them credentials that employers recognize and value.
Hugo Cai, Regional Director of TP-Link Malaysia, explained that building tech talent requires sustained collaboration between schools and industry. The goal is creating an ecosystem where students learn not just current technologies, but how to keep adapting as the field evolves.

Professor Dr. Mohd Amy Azhar bin Dato' Haji Mohd Harif, UniSHAMS Vice Chancellor, emphasized that preparing graduates means teaching them to learn continuously and respond to future changes. The partnership extends learning beyond classroom walls while creating research opportunities for both students and faculty.
The Ripple Effect
UniSHAMS joins a growing network of Malaysian universities partnering with TP-Link Malaysia, including Tunku Abdul Rahman University, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, and New Era University College. Each partnership adds more students to the pipeline of industry-ready tech professionals Malaysia needs for its digital future.
The initiative tackles youth unemployment and skills gaps by ensuring graduates enter the job market with practical experience and professional credentials, not just degrees.
Malaysia's tech sector continues growing, and partnerships like this one help ensure young people have the training they need to fill those jobs.
