Triple Espresso Reunites for First Time Since Gold

The front line that brought home Olympic gold is finally reuniting, and soccer fans couldn't be more ready.

Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson, and Sophia Wilson, known as "Triple Espresso," will play together for the first time since their stunning gold medal victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The three were named to the U.S. training camp roster for matches against Brazil in June.

Their separation wasn't due to injuries or retirement. Both Swanson and Wilson stepped away from international play to welcome their daughters, putting family first at the peak of their careers.

Swanson, who scored the only goal in the 1-0 gold medal match against Brazil, gave birth in November and recently returned to her club team, the Chicago Stars. Wilson came back to the national team in April after her own maternity leave.

At 28, Swanson has netted 38 goals in 103 national team appearances. Wilson brings 24 goals in 61 games.

"That front three haven't been together since the Olympic gold medal match, that's a long time, and we cannot waste a single minute," said U.S. coach Emma Hayes. She emphasized the importance of reuniting the squad's best players at every opportunity.

The Ripple Effect

The timing carries extra meaning beyond the reunion. The United States will face Brazil on their home turf in São Paulo on June 6 and Fortaleza on June 9, giving younger players crucial experience with international travel and hostile crowds.

Brazil will host next year's Women's World Cup, making these matches valuable preparation for the tournament atmosphere. The U.S. begins qualifying for that World Cup in late November at the CONCACAF W Championship.

Hayes sees the trip as essential training for handling pressure. "All of these things really, really matter," she said, citing different cultures, facilities, and the experience of being the away team against a top opponent.

The return of Triple Espresso shows that elite athletes can build families without sacrificing their careers, inspiring the next generation of players who won't have to choose between motherhood and their dreams.
