Two Alabama Students Win $20K Scholarships Each

Two students from Drake State Community and Technical College in Alabama are celebrating life-changing news: they've each been awarded $20,000 scholarships through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The awards recognize academic excellence while removing financial barriers that often stand between talented students and their dreams.

Corgan Smith, studying Computer Information Systems, and Australia "Tru" Campbell, pursuing Salon and Spa Management in Barbering, received their scholarships in two phases. They first earned $10,000 each through the Cal and Annette Johnson Scholarship, then secured an additional $10,000 after being selected for the TMCF Workforce Development Summit in Birmingham last November.

The summit brought together top students from historically Black community colleges nationwide. Attendees participated in career development workshops, connected with industry leaders, and built professional networks that extend far beyond their campuses.

For Smith, the scholarship meant more than tuition money. "Receiving this scholarship has lifted a huge financial burden and has allowed me to focus on my education and career goals," he shared.
