Two Mississippi Parks Reopen After Winter Storm Recovery

Campers and nature lovers across Mississippi can finally return to two cherished state parks after crews spent months repairing damage from Winter Storm Fern. George P. Cossar State Park and Wall Doxey State Park have reopened for reservations, bringing good news just as summer vacation season kicks off.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced that visitors can book stays at both parks starting this week. George P. Cossar State Park opened first, accepting reservations for stays beginning June 11.

Most of the park's camping, lodging, and day-use facilities are ready to welcome guests. Only one section, Jones Creek Campground sites 48 through 92, remains closed while final repairs are completed.

Wall Doxey State Park follows close behind, reopening June 15. Nearly all facilities at this popular North Mississippi destination are operational, with only campsites 1 through 49 still closed for debris removal.

The parks' recovery represents months of dedicated work from cleanup crews who cleared fallen trees, repaired damaged facilities, and restored trails. Their efforts ensured these natural treasures could reopen in time for summer adventures.
