Two Nurses Save Boater's Life in Grand Haven Marina

Brad Keith never expected his regular day of boating on May 28 would end with strangers saving his life at the Grand Haven Municipal Marina.

The 62-year-old had just docked his boat when he suffered cardiac arrest. By pure chance, Marina Dykstra and her daughter Leah Schafer, both nurses, were nearby and immediately began performing CPR. They kept Keith alive until paramedics arrived to take over.

When Keith woke up in the hospital, he learned that two women had saved him but didn't know who they were. Determined to thank them, he asked his sister for help finding his lifesavers.

His sister turned to Facebook, and the post worked. Within days, they connected with Dykstra and Schafer and arranged to meet at the very marina where everything happened.

The reunion this week brought hugs, tears, and words Keith had been waiting to say. "Thank you so much," he told the pair, his gratitude spilling over.
