Tyla Calls Fellow Artists On Stage at South Africa Awards

When Tyla received the AfriPure International Achievement Award at the 32nd South African Music Awards, she didn't just thank her fans. She invited her fellow artists on stage and shared a vision of unified Africa that brought the audience to its feet.

The 24-year-old Grammy winner was attending the SAMAs for the first time, even though she won the same award last year. Standing before the crowd at Sun City, she opened up about navigating fame without a blueprint.

"There's never been a Tyla before me, and I don't have a roadmap," she told the audience. She described stumbling through her career while growing up in the spotlight, but credited South Africa for supporting her every step of the way.

"South Africa runs through my veins, it shows in the way I speak, the way I dance," Tyla shared. Instead of keeping the spotlight to herself, she called eight artists to join her: Makhadzi, Zee Nxumalo, Langa Mavuso, Babalwa M, Lordkez, Xdubby, Maglera Doe Boy, and Cassper Nyovest.
