UAE City Launches Blockchain IDs for Instant Verification

Innovation City in the United Arab Emirates just turned business registration into something that sounds like science fiction but is now very real.

On May 4, the AI-focused free zone in Ras Al Khaimah launched a blockchain-based identity system that replaces traditional paper licenses with "living" digital assets. Each registered company now gets a cryptographically verifiable profile on the OPN blockchain that can be instantly checked by anyone, anywhere.

"Today we don't just register companies, we give them a soul on the blockchain," said Paul Dawalibi, CEO of Innovation City. For decades, verifying a business meant waiting weeks for document checks and wading through fragile databases that slowed down everything from bank approvals to international trade.

Now banks and regulators can verify a company's credentials in seconds. The blockchain identity travels across platforms and borders, cutting through red tape that has frustrated businesses for generations.

The timing matters because the UAE government just announced plans to transition 50% of federal services to AI automation within two years. By putting business identities on a blockchain, Innovation City creates the machine-readable infrastructure AI systems need to process permits, compliance checks, and taxation on their own.

The technology behind this comes from IOPN, which built an Ethereum-compatible blockchain that handles over 10,000 transactions per second. Mojtaba Asadian, IOPN's CEO, calls the OPN chain the "sovereign infrastructure layer" for the UAE's emerging AI economy.

Beyond speed, the system tackles real problems that have plagued international business. Document forgery becomes nearly impossible with cryptographic verification. Shell companies can't hide behind opaque paperwork when their credentials live transparently on a blockchain.
