UAE Launches First Passenger Rail Network in 2026

Imagine crossing the entire United Arab Emirates in less time than your morning commute. Starting in 2026, that vision becomes reality as the UAE launches its first passenger train network.

Etihad Rail is rolling out service across all seven emirates, from Al Sila near the Saudi border to Fujairah on the eastern coast. The 900-kilometer network represents decades of planning and a bold step toward sustainable travel in a region known for highways and luxury cars.

Travel times tell the real story. The Abu Dhabi to Dubai journey drops from two hours by car to just 57 minutes by train. A trip to Fujairah, previously a grueling drive, takes only 105 minutes on rail.

Each train carries 400 passengers in comfort that rivals air travel. Modern interiors feature ergonomic seating, WiFi, and power outlets at every seat. Unlike traditional stations tucked away from city centers, these hubs connect directly to regional transport networks.

This railway does more than move people faster. It opens tourism across emirates that were previously day-trip destinations at best. Visitors can now easily explore the Hajar Mountains in Ras Al Khaimah, experience desert safaris, and return to Abu Dhabi hotels the same evening.
