UConn's Sarah Strong Hits 1,000 Points in Record Win

Sarah Strong is rewriting UConn basketball history, and she's doing it faster than almost anyone who came before her.

The 19-year-old sophomore reached 1,000 career points on Monday night, becoming just the third Husky to hit that milestone in fewer than 60 games. Only program legends Maya Moore and Paige Bueckers, who each did it in 55 games, were faster than Strong's 59-game sprint to four digits.

"I would love to see if anybody has scored 1,000 points by taking less shots than she's taking," said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma. "She's so efficient."

Strong led the top-ranked Huskies with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double in their 85-47 demolition of Notre Dame. The 38-point victory margin set a new record in the teams' two-decade rivalry and kept UConn's perfect 2025-26 season intact.

The blowout win also snapped a three-game losing streak against the Fighting Irish. "UConn showed why they're the best team in the country," Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey said after the game.
