UK Invests £1 Billion to Create 200,000 Youth Jobs

The UK government just announced a £1 billion investment to tackle youth unemployment, with a goal of creating 200,000 new job opportunities for young people across the country.

Starting this week, businesses can receive £3,000 for hiring anyone aged 18 to 24 who has been unemployed for six months or more. The Youth Jobs Grant aims to support 60,000 young people who are currently stuck outside the job market.

Small and medium businesses will also get £2,000 for every new apprentice they hire between ages 16 and 24. The government hopes these financial incentives will encourage employers to take a chance on young workers who might otherwise struggle to get their foot in the door.

Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden is leading the initiative, which targets the growing number of young people not in education, employment, or training. The program also expands existing job guarantees to include everyone up to age 24, offering six-month work placements to those on Universal Credit for 18 months or longer.
