UNCG Softball Wins Fourth SoCon Title, Heads to NCAAs
The UNCG Spartans secured their fourth Southern Conference softball championship with a dominant 4-0 victory over Samford, earning a ticket to the NCAA tournament. Brooklyn Shroyer pitched a stunning complete game with seven strikeouts and just one hit allowed.
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro softball team just punched their ticket to the big dance with a championship performance that left no doubt who deserved the crown.
The Spartans defeated Samford 4-0 on Sunday at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, claiming the Southern Conference title and the automatic bid to NCAA Regionals. It's their fourth conference tournament championship and their first since 2023.
Junior pitcher Brooklyn Shroyer delivered a masterclass on the mound. She threw a complete game, allowing just one hit while striking out seven batters and keeping Samford scoreless through all seven innings.
But Shroyer's dominance wasn't limited to the championship game. Across the entire tournament, she went 3-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA over 18 innings, racking up 22 strikeouts and giving up only five hits total.

The offense got rolling early when Rylie Williams launched a solo home run in the second inning. One inning later, Avery Bouquin crushed a two-run homer to give UNCG a comfortable 3-0 cushion.
Williams added another run in the sixth inning after Madelyn McKinnon doubled off the right field wall. Williams finished 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Ripple Effect
This championship means more than just a trophy. The Spartans finished the season with a 42-17 record and now get to compete on college softball's biggest stage.
Shroyer earned Most Outstanding Player honors for the tournament, while McKinnon received the Knight Commission Pinnacle Award for having the highest GPA on the championship-winning team. Five Spartans made the all-tournament team, showcasing the depth of talent on this roster.
The selection show airs Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2, where UNCG will learn their NCAA Regional destination and get their shot at a national championship run.
