Unclaimed $111K Lottery Prize Goes to Belize Charity

Someone in Belize just missed out on a six-figure payday, but their loss is about to become a community gain.

The Belize Government Lotteries Limited announced that an unclaimed prize worth $111,111.11 from their December 20 Million Dalla Jackpot draw will be donated to a charitable organization. The winner had 30 days to claim their prize but never came forward.

Eight of the nine winning tickets from that draw were successfully redeemed. However, one lucky ticket holder either lost their ticket, forgot about it, or simply didn't realize they'd won.

Normally, unclaimed lottery winnings would go straight back into the company's revenue. But the Million Dalla Jackpot was designed differently from the start, with profits earmarked for charitable donation pending board approval.

Here's where the story gets even better. Even though the game didn't turn an overall profit, the Belize Government Lotteries board decided the unclaimed prize should still go to charity as originally intended.
