Universal and UCF Launch $10M Themed Entertainment School
Universal and the University of Central Florida just created the first school dedicated to training the next generation of theme park creators and immersive experience leaders. The $10 million investment builds on a 20-year partnership that's already helped shape Epic Universe.
The people who design your favorite theme park rides now have their own school.
Universal Destinations & Experiences and the University of Central Florida announced the launch of the Universal School of Experience Leadership and Innovation this week. It's the first program of its kind in the country, designed specifically to train future leaders in themed entertainment and immersive experiences.
The $10 million investment creates a home within UCF's Rosen College of Hospitality Management. Students will learn hospitality leadership alongside immersive storytelling and cutting-edge technology in a groundbreaking dual-school model.
"This collaboration unites creativity, technology and the practical application of business, marketing, and guest service to develop tomorrow's leaders," said Mark Woodbury, Chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences.
The school includes a brand new Hospitality Technology Lab where students will work hands-on with industry professionals. They'll explore emerging technologies like service robotics, augmented and virtual reality simulation, artificial intelligence, and digital twins.

The partnership builds on more than two decades of collaboration between Universal and UCF. Thousands of Rosen College graduates already work across Universal's parks and operations. UCF's themed experience program helped staff Epic Universe with show set designers, art directors, producers, and creative directors.
UCF President Alexander N. Cartwright called the partnership a perfect example of the university's mission. "We're creating an environment where students are learning in direct connection with the people and ideas shaping the future of immersive experiences," he said.
Universal became UCF's first entertainment-sector Pegasus Partner and the first to sign a master research agreement with the university. The agreement opens doors for large-scale applied research and workforce development that could reshape how theme parks operate.
The Ripple Effect
This investment does more than create jobs. It establishes Central Florida as the global center for themed entertainment education. Students from around the world will come to Orlando to learn from the industry's best, bringing fresh ideas and diverse perspectives to an art form that brings joy to millions of visitors each year.
The school also positions Florida as a leader in experience design beyond theme parks. The skills students learn apply to museums, retail spaces, hospitality venues, and any environment where storytelling meets technology.
The next generation of experience creators now has a dedicated path to turn imagination into reality.
