UNLV Rebel Girls Win 2nd Straight Hip-Hop Dance Title

A team of 41 dancers from UNLV just proved that precision and pride make an unbeatable combination, winning back-to-back championships at the Universal Dance Association Championship.

The UNLV Rebel Girls and Company dominated the competition with a hip-hop routine that's now taken over social media. One video alone racked up nearly 426,000 likes on Instagram and TikTok, introducing their artistry to audiences far beyond the dance world.

Genesis Scott, a team member, says the secret ingredient is sweating the small stuff. "People can be great, but to be a champion, you have to worry about every single small detail," she explained, noting that everything from mat positioning to facial expressions matters in their performances.

For teammate Amajhai Reed, the grueling practice schedule pays off in that single moment on stage. "We practice so long day and day out just for that one time to go on stage and perform," Reed said.

Why This Inspires

This victory carries weight beyond the trophy. Scott emphasized that the team performs for people who don't often see their culture represented on major stages. "The fact that we get to be the voice for people who don't get to get on that big stage and show their roots and culture and hip-hop, it means the most of us to have the opportunity for sure," she said.

The team's success shows how far dedication and unity can build a program. Scott reflected on their journey, noting it's rewarding to see how dancers and athletes grow together as part of something bigger than themselves.
