The boom is also being driven by an unexpected demand spike. Data centers powering artificial intelligence and cloud computing need massive amounts of electricity, and they need it fast.
"The data center build out is relatively new, and that pressure is going up really quickly," said Philip Krein, an electrical engineering professor at the University of Illinois. Solar storage offers an economically smart way to meet that demand.

Politics matter less when the economics make sense. Three-quarters of the new energy storage added this quarter went into states that voted for President Trump, proving that clean energy wins cross party lines.
"People in Texas talk about where the electricity comes from, but at the end of the day, they just want their lights on," said Brian Korgel, director of the University of Texas at Austin Energy Institute. When solar saves money and keeps power reliable, customers care more about their utility bills than political debates.
The solar industry is proving that good technology can stand on its own two feet. What started as a movement needing government support has matured into a market-driven success story.
