UW Opens Trailhead Drop-In Hub for Student Success

Getting help in college just got a whole lot easier for University of Wyoming students.

The university's Division of Student Affairs is opening The Trailhead this fall, a brand new drop-in support center on the first floor of the Wyoming Union. Students can walk in without an appointment to get guidance on everything from academic planning to financial aid, all in one welcoming space.

The center will be home to Cowboy Coaching, where trained peer mentors help students set goals, plan their academic path, and connect with campus resources. These one-on-one sessions give students personalized support from fellow students who understand the college experience firsthand.

But The Trailhead goes beyond just coaching. Key campus offices like Student Financial Services and the Office of the Registrar will rotate through with regular appearances, bringing essential services like billing help, registration support, and major-change guidance directly to students.

"The Trailhead is about meeting students where they are," says Abby Markley, associate vice president and dean of Student Success and Graduation. "Whether a student has a quick question or needs more in-depth support, this space provides a welcoming environment where they can connect with the right people and resources to help them succeed."

Why This Inspires

Too often, students struggle simply because they don't know where to turn for help or feel intimidated about asking. The Trailhead removes that barrier entirely by creating one clear, approachable starting point where any student can walk in and get pointed in the right direction.

Markley even jokes it's "a perfect place to drop by when the Panda Express line is too long." That casual, friendly approach is exactly the point. Getting help should feel as natural as grabbing lunch between classes.

By bringing coaching, advising, and essential campus services together under one roof, the university is making it genuinely easier for students to get the support they need to graduate on time and thrive during their college years.

The Trailhead opens its doors this fall next to the University Store, ready to help students find their path forward.
